In the spotlight:
Photography: Mike Wilby
Born at the times of The Beatles and Woodstock, Mike Wilby was raised in Brussels in a Belgian family with Italian and French roots.
Mike has always been a wanna-be artist. He wanted to be The Beatles, but they existed already. As a kid he played classical guitar and the piano. But found it sooo boring wink-emoticon
He then learned photography, but never used his skills professionally.
Mike constantly needs new challenges in his life (personal, professional, and hobby) and usually changes his whole life every 5 years... He worked in the aviation world. At that time he left some parts of his heart in Anse Cafard (Martinique) and in Kowloon (Hong Kong). He also worked in the music industry, as a (very bad) musician, producer, publisher and manager of a few belgian artists. Then he worked in the IT world, opened a computer shop, became a software developer, later a graphic designer, then website developer.
Photography was a hobby during his whole life, mainly travel and architecture photography. It took Mike 20 years to dare contact models and propose them to shoot some portraits
Since 2010 Mike has been very active as a photographer. He likes to work several months on a unique project or style. His portfolio (www.mikewilby.com) shows portraits, fashion shoots for various creators, studio and location shoots, and lots of portfolio shoots for new models...
He has also gained some visibility for special series: underwater shoots, bath series, The Little Black Dress (35 models wearing the same little black glitter dress), and more.
Don't ask Mike if he's Canon or Nikon. He doesn't care. He has worked with Sony, Canon and Nikon gear, and considers them all equal. Photography is not a matter of hardware. Photography is mainly a matter of composition and emotions. Being at the right place, at the right hour, with the right person... and then counting on some luck too !
Photography is also a matter of encounters. There's no model photography without models. And a dedicated MUA and a nice location can make the difference too !
Mike is currently mainly working on his recent project 'Tears & Skin' (www.tearsandskin.com), a 'model@home' glamour and sensual series of shoots
