Interview: Cover model, Camilla Hansson (London, UK)

Can you tell us a little about you?
I'm a model, former Miss Sweden, Children’s Charity Ambassador and the owner of a coaching business where we help others to develop themselves both personally and professionally. I was born and grew up in Stockholm but currently live in London.

If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be?

I think I could improve my patience level at times. When it comes to doing things I don’t find valuable I get very impatient and don’t like to waste time. So I need to remind myself that certain things take time and can’t be rushed.

How did you start modelling?

I started modelling on the side when I was 18 and won my fist big modelling campaign in 2013 to front the British lingerie brand Belle et Bon Bon. But it was only really after winning the Miss Sweden competition in 2014 that I started to get brand ambassador/spokesmodel type of work where I would not only do photo shoots for a brand but also attend events, press releases, interviews and so forth and really speak about the companies that I represent. I am always on the lookout for new brands to work with which I find aspirational.

What do you think of the work as a model?
The good part is that you are working for yourself so your schedule is flexible and you are your own boss. I like the creative process of expressing emotions and ideas through photos. The less good part as anyone who works for themselves knows is that you might not always have a steady income and some months will always be better than others.

What is your beauty regimen?
Having a healthy lifestyle by eating healthy and exercising as well as getting good quality sleep really is the key. I have studied nutrition so that is something I am very passionate about. I try to avoid eating dairy, gluten, refined sugar or drinking too much alcohol as I find that plays havoc on your skin. Apart from that I use good skin care products which I like to switch up quite often and I also love having regular facials.

What are your personal qualities which distinguish you from others?

I am not sure if this distinguishes me from others or not but I believe in being a balanced person. If your only strength is your looks then that will make you very insecure. I believe beauty is not just one thing but rather a collection of everything that you are such as  your talents, charisma, achievements, intelligence and how you carry yourself.

What are your plans for the future?

I always aspire to combine achievement and contribution in my life and I think having big dreams is what makes you excited about the future. I would like to continue to work with great people in this industry as well as keep running my coaching business as I like helping my clients to become the best version of themselves. I would also love to get involved in more charity projects in the future and I am always interested in speaking to people who are doing inspiring things.

What are some of your favourite experiences so far?
Some of my favourite experiences so far for me have been moving to London which is one of the greatest cities in the world. Representing my country at the Miss Universe competition in Miami 2015 was very special. I also loved going to India this February with the Healthy Kids Happy Kids foundation to visit all the amazing children they work with.

Do you have any advice for those who want to start modelling?
I would say if this is a career path you want to take then you must be someone who loves being in front of the camera and an audience. Start with knowing what type of modelling you are suited for whether it’s fashion, commercial or any other. Start by sending in some clear photos of yourself to some of the agency’s that work with the type of modelling that you are suited for or go to one of their walk-in casting appointments. This is an industry that is very competitive and with an exceptionally high rejection rate so be prepared for that and know that you won’t be right for every job. Lastly be determined and hardworking and maintain a great attitude so that people will be more willing to work with you again.

What do you think of the magazine?

I think it is a great place for photographers and models alike to be able to display their work. I really loved working with the talented photographer Irena Eastington exclusively for this magazine shoot. When I work with professional people who are passionate and brilliant at what they do that’s when it is truly fun and rewarding.
