Model: Hella Maenad (Netherlands)
Can you tell us a little about you?
My name is Hella Maenad, an alternative model from the Netherlands. I have been doing photoshoots for four years now and I really love it.
Besides the shoots, I am studying to become a teacher. Last year I got my bachelor in Applied Biology, and I am now trying to get my teacher degree. At my internship, I am teaching students from around 16-25 years.
Besides the study and the internship, I have some hobbies. I love to play music (hurdy-gurdy, hammered dulcimer and other folk-related instruments) and sing. I also enjoy going to fantasy fairs, dance and watch Tim Burton movies.
If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be?
This sure is a difficult question. The thing I want to change is that I would more accept myself as I am. Don’t change a thing, just accept who you are.
How did you start modeling?
I started four years ago, when a good friend of mine, Myrna Moonstruck, asked me to do a photoshoot together with her. It was her first shoot as well. I really enjoyed it, but didn’t think of starting as a model. After a half year, someone asked me to do a shoot, and from there I started doing more and more shoots.
What do you think of the work as a model?
The work can be very nice to do and the results can be very satisfying. Also it can be quite exhausting, performing on a photoshoot can be tiring. Especially when you have to do some weird poses. Nonetheless, I would recommend it to a lot of people.

What is your beauty regimen?
I don’t really have a beauty regimen. I try to do some fitness once in a while, but I don’t really enjoy it. I eat vegan and I try to eat healthy, but vegan fastfood is sooo yummy in my tummy. But yes, I do watch my looks and I need to stay in shape.
What are your plans for the future?
Considering the modelling work, I am planning to get more fame so that more people can enjoy my work. I am planning to do more work abroad, and I am still planning for a shoot trip in the UK and America.
Do you have any advice for those who want to start modeling?
Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it and don’t give up!
What are some of your favorite experiences so far?
I really loved the shoot I did in Berlin. It was also one of the hardest ones to organize.
I arranged it completely myself, first contacting the photographer behind my computer. Then I asked a friend who lives in Berlin, if she could do my hair and make-up. I also asked another friend who makes corsets, if I could lend a corset from him. I just arranged everything from behind my computer, hoping it would work out. So I went on a trip to Berlin, and it all went fine.
Then I went to Lisbon in February, to shoot with Teresa Balino, I really loved going there and she is a very nice person. The trip was nice and I really love to travel for more shoots in the future.
But the best experience I have, is doing shoots together with Kimberley Sol (photographer) and Kelly Klingenberg (SFX Artist – Isil creations). The results are always really nice and they became my friends. I am so glad I have met them through modelling.
What do you think of the magazine?
I think it is a nice opportunity for models, photographers and other creatives to show what they can make!
