Interview: Lightworx photography (Germany)

Tell us something about yourself

I´m a 38 year old just-for-the-fun photographer from Bavaria, Germany, happily married to my wonderful wife and also a little bit to my camera.

How and when did you get into photography?

I started in 2006 with photographing landscapes and logging my outdoor hiking trips. In 2012 I slowly got in touch with photographing people.

What does photography mean to you?

Photography means absolute passion to me and is an ideal counterbalance to my job. It´s pure relaxation and enjoyment.

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

Some short catchwords which characterize my picture style: Tidy, jazzy, contrasty, illustrative, light-oriented and environmental.

Where do you get inspiration from?

Looking at pictures from different photographers and models in books, magazines and of course social media. There are great and inspiring artists all over the world to look at.

Think you in advance what you want in the picture?

I start the shoot with rough ideas and some moods. During the shoot model and photographer are usually developing ideas together. So we are flexible for changing light situations, the weather and possibilities resulting from the location or situation. It´s the teamwork and process that counts and is so much fun.

Studio, on location or both?

On location. The world is my studio!

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

100% hobbyist!

What has been your most memorable session and why?

It´s a really difficult question which I can´t answer. So far I have been lucky enough to share my hobby with a lot of awesome photographers, models and make-up artists. Every shoot tells its own particular story.

What has been the biggest source of inspiration in your work?

When I´m roaming through all the great work on various social media channels that´s my source of inspiration.

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

Neither Nikon nor Canon. It´s Sony mirrorless. I startet with Minolta and Sony-A-Mount. Today my favorite lenses are the Sony Zeiss 35mm/1.4 and 50mm/1.4 as well as the Zeiss Batis 25mm/2.0 and 85mm/1.8.  But these are only tools… nothing more and nothing less.

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

As a 100% hobbyist I cannot give any business tips. But in terms of photography you should get your gear out and shoot as often as possible! Gathering experience is way more important than pixel peeping or discussing which camera brand is the best one. In addition it´s all about the light and good teamwork and communication between model, make-up artist and photographer… not the gear!

What do you think of our new magazine?

It´s great to see such a variety of styles and wonderful artists.
