Make up & hairstylist

Penny Kandilioti (Netherlands)

Can you tell us a little about you?

Hi,my name is Penny I am from Greece. I am a passionate make up artist in Greece and the Netherlands.I am a person with a positive attitude and I love to take on new challenges in the beauty and styling field. I love fashion so I currently work in this area, I also do makeup for tv, special occasion, theatrical makeup as well as brides makeup. My favorite style is artistic makeup because I love to create strange things.

How long have you been a makeup artist and how did you get your start?

I started my make up artist career 3 years ago. I grew up loving everything about art and creativity and always wanted to end up as an artist in someway or another. I always had this feeling to create .I started to take makeup courses and build up my makeup kit.I started doing makeup for some test shoots for photographers to build up my portfolio so there I met a lot of people that liked my work, so here I am.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I get my inspiration from many different things.. fashion, travelling, history, different cultures, movies.. I like every decade and I wish I had a time traveling machine to go back to live each of them. I like to transform in every style that can give us something beautiful from the past. As a child I was full of imagination and I was playing roles like being a queen or a geisha..Also I’m inspired by personal styles and different personalities and what I want to show in a person’s face..and you know, creative people get inspired from everything.

What are some of your makeup products that you use?

Well I am a fan of Malu Wilz products I adore their camouflage cream and their minerals compact powder. I am also in love with La Femme Blush  their colours make multiple tones in every shade of rouge so that you can find exactly the right match. Also I can’t live without  L’Oréal Voluminous waterproof mascara.

Who have you worked for and who would you like to work for in the future?

I have worked with photographers in the fashion industry, fashion designers, models, stylists, model agencies, magazines but my favorite is jewelry industry cause the makeup they ask for is more creative with shapes and lines, I love surrealism you know. I would love to work in the biggest fashion shows in Paris, New York, my dream is to travel the world and be a part of major fashion shoots, shows and events. Another goal of mine is to have my work featured on the cover of Vogue magazine.

Any makeup tips you'd like to share with us?

Look after your skin. Invest in a great moisturiser, apply it day & night, and drink lots of water to keep your skin hydrated so your skin always looks radiant.

Less is more..put the makeup only where you need it! If you’ve got great skin but dark circles or a breakout, then use concealer on those bits…Instead of foundation all over, use a tinted moisturizer to get a natural glow.

If you were not a makeup artist, what would be your dream job?

Well I love my work, I have so much inspiration to give that I would not do anything else. This is what I was born to do, as a child I always loved to draw and paint ..I would change it only if I could be an astronaut and visit the stars!

What are three things every girl needs in her makeup bag?

I would suggest a great  lip moisturizer. The cold season can be so drying on the skin and lips so keep them hydrated. Second, a bright lip color,a bold lip will always be in style and can easily transform a low-key makeup look, into a chic, sophisticated look. And lastly, concealer. Concealer is a quick way to uplift a look.  a little concealer under the eyes will conceal dark circles, making you look less tired.

What are common mistakes you see women make on their makeup?

Drawing lines on the entire brow. Tracing heavy lines on your entire brow  shape can make it harder to blend and soften them, which means you'll most likely end up with an unnatural shape and cartoon-ish brows that don't match your hair color or the shape of your face.

What do you think of the magazine?

Fashion is an art, a career, a passion,a lifestyle. Fashion can promote creativity, that it is very important in culture, society,  and it can make you look and feel more professional. So you promote fashion ,you promote art .Your magazine is a way to promote artists and I love it.
