Interview: makeup artist Doryn Lena (Paris)

Can you tell us a little about you?

I m Lena, I'm a freelance makeup artist. i grew up in Belgium but i currently live in Paris.

How long have you been a makeup artist and how did you get your start?

I started 2 years ago. My first job was a video clip. I started to work on shooting right after that.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Everywhere,  it can be from litteraly everywhere... i constantly think about makeup. i can get inspired from the best makeup artists  to the worst makeup faux pas... Bein inspired is a state of mind, you have to be like a sponge and keep your eyes and heart open.

What are some of your makeup products that you use?

Embryolisse hydrating cream, Bioderma micellar water, Makeup for ever HD loose powder, Mac lip conditioner and fast response eye creme,...

Who have you worked for and who would you like to work for in the future?

I actually dont like workin FOR poeple, i like to work WITH them. Especially creative ones...

But to be honest i'd love to work with someone like Iris Van Herpen, Serkan Cura or brands like Nars, Too faced or Kat Von D as makeup brands... I dream big lol

Any makeup tips you'd like to share with us?

There's a lot...  Always try your foundation on you jaw line and confirm your choice on your forehead. Wear makeup the way you feel your best, and remember... Less is more.

If you were not a makeup artist, what would be your dream job?

Hard to say cause i'm actually doin my dream job...  But pro MMA fighter ... i don't have time to train anymore but i miss my Boxing training and my trainer Ben Loco (Osss)

What are three things every girl needs in her makeup bag?

A good hydrating cream, concealer and mascara.

What are common mistakes you see women make on their makeup?

The worst is definitly not removin your makeup before bedtime...

Not hydrating enough (drink water ladies!), wrong foundation (obviously color but also the texture and finish) were the classic common mistakes but the new one is ... suspense... bad contouring !

What do you think of the magazine?

It s a great initiative, plus it give the opportunity to have more visibility for poeple who are usually "hide" like makeup artists
