Interview: Makeup artist Nomi Nguyen (USA)
Nomi Nguyen is licensed cosmetologist, certified pro makeup artist, and nail artist based in the San Francisco Bay area. Currently se is the manager for Smashbox
How long have you been a makeup artist and how did you get the start?
Ive been a makeup artist over last 6 years and started out working at Sephora after gratuated from Highschool.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Ive always loved doing makeup, hair & nail since i was a little girl but my true inspiration came from being in a Ballroom Dancing family and surrounded with all stage makeups daily that gave me the inspiration to express my passion for Makeup Artistry.
What are some of your makeup products that you use?
Since i ve worked for so many different makeup lines my whole career, i like some in every brand for particular reason, style and customer.
Who have you worked for and who would you like to work in the future?
Ive worked for : MAC, Benefit, Urban Decay, Stilla, Cargo, Laura Gellar, Too Faced, Bare Escentuals, Sue Devitt, Bliss, Dr Brant, Peter Thomas Roth, Philosophy, Shiseido and currently working for Smashbox Cosmetics.
Any makeup tips you'd like to share with us?
Be yourself and wear what works for your feautures and skin type.
If you were not a makeup artist, what would be your dream job?
I would love to get into Fashion designer World, its another passion of mine
What are three things every girl needs in her makeup bag?
Primer Water from Smashbox: to set, prime and fresh your skin or makeup. BB or CC from Smashbox: has SPF , light coverage and skincare element. Shiseido Lip treatment: keeps your lip smooth and soft.
What are common mistakes you see women make on their makeup?
Most common mistakes a lot of women make are: Follow the trends from magazines, Youtubes, Intergram that dont work for your skin, features or lifestyle. Too heavy handed on Foundation
What do you think of the magazine?
I love this magazine because giving the Artists a platform to express themselves artistically and Sky is limited.
