Interview: Model Cecilie Hvidbak Østergaard (Denmark)

Can you tell us a little about you?

I’m an 18-year-old girl from Denmark. I’ve been dancing since I was 8, and on a daily basis I work with theatre. Modelling is another way for me to be even closer to art.

If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be?

I would love to be taller, not much, but just a little bit taller. I’m only 5’2 tall, so the model industry doesn’t always take me seriously.

How did you start modeling?

My father is a photographer, so I always grew up in front of a camera. Doing it professionally came naturally to me once I got older.

What do you think of the work as a model?

I’ve always loved working with my body, so I really enjoy that I can use my body to create art and beauty. Hopefully I can be a part of developing and changing the Modelling Industry’s view on the type of models that are ideal, according to them.

What is your beauty regimen?

I never wear makeup unless it’s a special occasion, so that my skin always can breathe, and I make sure to clean and cleanse my skin every morning and night – and I never leave without lip balm!

What are your personal qualities which distinguish you from others?

My social instinct is very strong. I quickly pick up if someone is feeling down or if something is bothering the people around me, and I’m very easy to talk to about anything

What are your plans for the future?

I would love to keep working as a model, but my true passion is still theatre, which has my full attention the next couple of years.

What are some of your favourite experiences so far?

I had the honour of working with some incredible photographers, including Jeff Tuliniemi, while I was in London, which really was enriching, but I’m sure that my absolute best experience is yet to come.

Do you have any advice for those who want to start modelling?

Don’t change yourself. Just look at me, I’m 5’2 and I have got a woman’s body. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. Believe in yourself and work hard, but never let anyone tell you that you are not skinny enough, tall enough or good enough, to be a model.

What do you think of the magazine?

I love the concept of focusing on the artists (the photographers and models), and not just a product they're trying to sell. I find it refreshing.
