Interview: Model Katie O'Rear (Detroit Mi, USA)

Can you tell us a little about you?

My name is Katie O'Rear I am 22 and I have been modelling since 2010.  I am a vegan model who has been published several times and can not wait to be published more! I love animals (especially cats), music (especially electronic), cosplay (of which I am co-owner of a cosplay company called headhunter cosplay & props), video games ( Skyrim is my favorite) , and food! (give me all the pasta salad!)

If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be?

I would try to be a more trusting person, sadly I have been hurt in the past and sometimes have a hard time trusting people at face value.

How did you start modeling?

I was actually discovered in a cafe, had my photo taken which was then entered a contest and WON! that, is when it all started after that, the requests for shoots started pouring in.

What do you think of the work as a model?

It is a fun experience and I really get the opportunity to truly express myself whereas I do not think I would get that freedom in some other professions.

What is your beauty regimen?

For the most part, I do not have to do much due to my clean eating habits with vegan-ism but I make sure to use clay masks on my face if it gets oily at all as well as daily washing with non drying cleansers I use coconut oil on my hair at least 3 times a week and make sure to take biotin supplements to keep my nails, hair, and skin looking and feeling good.

What are your personal qualities which distinguish you from others?

I am VERY flexible. I can do poses most will not attempt. I will also do anything to get the right shot. I have stood on overpasses, in abandoned buildings, hung upside down from trees and bridges, and even walked along the edge of a tall building in high heels for the right shot. I love creating art and sometimes a little bit of danger makes it that much more meaningful to me since I like to have an experience or a story to go along with each shoot I do.

What are your plans for the future?

hopefully I will get in many more magazines and continue making art for as long as my body will let me. I have also toyed around with the idea of starting up an agency since I am already acting as an agent/mentor for an up and coming model by the name of Haley Fisher.

What are some of your favorite experiences so far?

In general going to study the Spanish language in Madrid it was such an enriching learning moment that I will never forget. However modeling wise, I think that when I get messages from people telling me they look up to me due to how I am making my dreams come true and thereby pushing them to follow their own dreams.

Do you have any advice for those who want to start modeling?

As silly as it sounds... make funny faces in the mirror, practice your poses, relish every selfie you take and learn your angles BEFORE you try to book your first shoot. You AND the photographer will thank you

What do you think of the magazine?

I think it is great to see a magazine that is willing to contact people outright instead of letting people come to them. It shows a certain drive and ambition that I wish others would have. From a photo standpoint I LOVE the photos that make it in. They are sure to never disappoint. I just want to say thank you for even considering me for your publication. it is an honor.
