Interview: Model Shasta Wonder (USA)

Can you tell us a little about you?

I'm a full time freelance traveling model based in LA and NYC. I chose this path because I love traveling, creating images with different people, learning about different cultures and food, and of course for personal quality time. Aside from modeling, I'm currently focusing on my cooking and creative directing career. My long term goals are to own a restaurant with my own menu and working photo shoots as a creative director of some sorts.

If I'm not doing any of the above, you will find me on reading, watching a tv show, researching random projects or out and about playing sports or hiking with friends.

If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be?

Mhh..... I could work on being less mysterious, letting people to get to know me.

How did you start modeling?

I just did it! I'm a person with a short life span on certain things. So if I want to do something or change something I just wake up one day and do it. My first ever photo shoot was when I was freshman in college. I went to a school pretty much in middle of no where and I didn't know anyone there but modeling changed that. One day I was coming from lunch on campus and a guy ( fellow student) approached me and asked me if he and his could take photos of me for their class project. I said yes. That weekend, I went to their dorm, one of their other friend did my make up and the shoot went on! I was very young, one the photo they took of me is still one of my favorite to this day. After that I was involved in the school fashion show and other little events here and there. I kept modeling here and there through college. After, college, I decided to do it full time!

What do you think of the work as a model?

There are a lot of mix feelings of what I think of the work but at the end of the day, I love it. Modeling is certainly not for everyone and most days aren't good days but the good days make me realize why I do what I do and why I'm still doing it!Freelance modeling can be frustrating, stressful and very unpredictable. The life style of a freelance model is not as glamorous and it appears, not to say that it is bad! It is actually, a rewarding life experience if you are doing it for all the right reasons and of course are a decent/ good business person.

What is your beauty regimen?

It is hard to keep a constant beauty regimen when you are on the road constantly. I don't have a specific regimen except to try to good quality products and try to eat healthy! What you wear, what you eat, where you sleep, how you travel and how you carry yourself and your attitude play a big role in how you looks physically. So try to aware of all these things.

What are your personal qualities which distinguish you from others?

I guess this is a question that you can ask those who I've had the opportunity to work with or meet but I think that what distinguishes me from others is that I'm able to adapt most if not all situation I'm in.  I'm a very calm person, who is can shut off anything if need me and I try to not have any expectations. Anything is possible in all you do and you have to always be prepared for whatever happens. You got be flexible in life.

What are your plans for the future?

I will always be involved into modeling one way or the other ( unless I become a supermodel, haha...) but as I mentioned above my future plans involve cooking, working behind the camera and of course more traveling.

What are some of your favorite experiences so far?

Mhh it's hard to tell what specific experiences are my favorite as this would involve a lot of details! However, my favorite experience has been when I get "piece of art" images back. Images that make me proud and that inspire me to create more and encourage me to improve.

I've shot in some amazing locations with great artists who are also amazing people and become good friends! This, adds to what I consider favorite experiences.

Do you have any advice for those who want to start modeling?

Model not because you just look unique/ are a model type or just because you think you will make a lot of money but because it's something you you want to explore, because it is something enjoy. All the hustle freelance models go through aren't worth it unless you are in it for something more. My other Advice is, never ever rely on anyone. If you want to successful, do your research and be prepared to do things for yourself if you really want to make things happen. There are a lot of disappointment if you rely on people doing things for you. Most people will help you out because they want something from you/ they are getting something from it! Otherwise, they will toss you around and make you their least priority which will definitely not help with your modeling career.
