Interviews  / Stories

Tell us something about yourself / How and when did you get into photography?

I’m a Belgian photographer based in Brussels.
I’m 25 years old. 1m73 and 63kg (Reason why I’m behind the camera, and not in front haha).

More seriously, I’m heading for my last year in commercial communication.

I’m infinitely passionate about photography (true story) and I’m just craving for travel all the time. The world is full of wonderful places!
I trekked the world, from the North Pole with its overwhelming silence and landscapes to die for, to South Africa with its vivid colours.

I realised I couldn't keep this for myself. I had to share these experiences and beautiful images I kept inside my head. That's when I bought my first Nikon reflex camera, a few years ago. To capture all those memories. Keep them with me and show them to the others.

As time went by, I got more and more involved, changed cameras several times, wanting to do more, not just to capture an image. My mind was overflowing with ideas and ambition.

What does photography mean to you?

Emotions, memories, untold stories, mind travel. I couldn’t describe exactly how I feel about it. But a picture is worth a thousand words.

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

The question I dread. I would call it “Fashion Lifestyle”.  But I don’t like to restrict myself in a predefined style.

Where do you get inspiration from?

From everywhere. Seriously, life’s so inspiring. The world outside, the people, songs and drawings, friends, family, love. I always have something to tell and to shoot. Just travel around the world, meet beautiful people, wonderful places, different cultures. You can’t get weary of all this !

Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?

Well, I sure do have some ideas. I mean, mostly I organize a shooting because I have a nice project in mind. But most of the time I just go with the emotions. The world outside inspires me, so I give free rein to my imagination.

Studio, on location or both?

Both, but I really favoure on location. There are millions of possibilities out there. An infinite of different lights, of different places, of differents vibes, etc. I mostly use my studio for lookbooks, and some book shots.

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

Both. Never forget that you started all this cause you were found of photography (Well, at least I hope so.) So yeah, it becomes your job and you become professional. But I’m still so addicted to it. Actually, it keeps growing.

What has been your most memorable session and why?

I had the chance to shoot at Pairi Daiza. We had a really great team. I keep some wonderful memories from that day. I’m in love with the pictures we took, and on top of that the atmosphere was really nice !

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

Nikon power ! Well I recently got the Nikkor  85mm f/1.4 and I must say it instantly became my favorite baby.
When I need more flexibility I use the Nikkor 24-70 f2.8, a great lens as well !

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

Just go for it. Just keep in mind it’s a passion. You’re not bound to anything. Do what you love. Go out there, and don’t stop shooting.

What do you think of our new magazine?

I absolutely love the title. I always say the choice of the model makes half the picture. It’s great they get a pedestal. Keep up the great work !
