Interview: Photographer Andrea Muroni (Italy)

Tell us something about yourself

Hello there to our readers! I am Andrea Muroni and I am a portrait photographer based in Rome, Italy. I am 35 years old and love photography and cats :)

How and when did you get into photography?

I got into photography when I was just a child, obsessed by my parents' camera, always taking pictures around. When I grow up I finally bought my own camera and started taking pictures of my closer friends, until I started doin'personal projects and editorial, co-working with make up artists, postproducers, editors and other photographers.

What does photography mean to you?

Photography is my personal way to express feelings and moods, to the other hand is a technique exercise and research of perfection and beauty.

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

On my personal page there's an impressum: “I shoot people”, I absolutely love taking pictures of people, creating a personal and unique moment during shooting. I also love natural light portrait and totally artificial light situations, i am a bit schizophrenic in my style choose, it all depends by my daily mood.

Where do you get inspiration from?

I often look around when I drive on my car or motorcycle, not drive safe, but inspiring, then when I am planning a shooting I try to remember and set up all my thoughts to create something interesting and inspiring for viewers. When I make a portrait, instead, is my model to inspire me, nothing is planned in advance.

Think you in advance what you want in the picture?

I only plan things if there's an exact project, otherwise I am totally inspired by my mood or by a face I am shooting.

Studio, on location or both?

Studio, location and everything could be a cool place where to shoot, we live in a beautiful place :D

Would you consider yourself a paid professional?

I am an hobbyst, in real life I am a Radiologyst

What has been your most memorable session and why?

A couple of years ago, during a session, we planned everything, big team, 4 models, a great place reached by Jeep on a mountain, we expected a sunny day but it rained all time, so we changed our mind on place and made out a very good work, we obviously had to change the name of editorial xD

What has been the biggest source of inspiration in your work?

I really think the great amount of people i look at when I work as a Radiologyst made my love for portraits grow up, I made a count and I meet at least 1200 persons per year, so I have a lot of inspiration with a so large amount of faces seen.

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

I am a Nikonist and love shooting with high aperture fixed lens, like the 60mm Micro Nikkor F2.8 or 70mm F2.8 Sigma Macro

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start?

Take care of your pictures, don't be in a hurry when you shoot and post-produce, take your time and study a lot!

What do you think of our new magazine?

I absolutely love the way you treat photography in your magazine and I am honoured to be a part of it!
