IntInterview: Photographer Daniel Hollister (Denmark)

Tell us something about yourself
I 37 years old, from Denmark, started photographing June last year.  Found a great passion for portrait and fashion photography, so that's where all my energy goes.

How and when did you get into photography?

Always saw beautiful images of gorgeous people, and decided that I would try and see if I could do something like that. I like to push myself and try out new things, and decided to buy a camera, and give it a go. Now 1½ years later, I have learned so much and I am eager to learn so much more, and push myself even further.

What does photography mean to you?

It is a way to express myself, and it is a way to capture the beauty in other people. Besides I use it to push myself, as I am a person who wants to learn new things and new people, and in photography I do just that.

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

I am a portrait and fashion photographer, trying to establish myself in the photography world.

Where do you get inspiration from?

That is a difficult one because I get inspiration from all over the place.  Music, other photos I find in magazines and online.

Think you in advance what you want in the picture?

I have a general idea, and often have a theme or a color in mind, but I tend to go with the flow on a shoot.

Studio, on location or both?

I do both but have done a lot of studio photography lately, to really learn, how to use the lights properly.

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

I consider myself a hobbyist photographer.

What has been your most memorable session and why?

I can't say I have one memorable session only, because they are all really memorable, in their own unique way.
I enjoy every session I have, with every model I have in front of my camera, every person is enjoyable in their own way, and it makes our photos even better, getting to know each other.

What has been the biggest source of inspiration in your work?

Early on I really enjoyed Dani Diamonds photos, and I still do.

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

Nikon and the lens that is on my camera 95% of the time are my 50mm Sigma Art f/1.4, wow that is a great lens.

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

Wouldn't know how to start a business, but my best advice is to always seek to learn new things, and push yourself even further, each time you are shooting.

What do you think of our new magazine?
I think it's really great, a lot of VERY talented models and photographers. I really enjoy reading it.
