Tell us something about yourself

I'm 43, belgian, married and I work in the public sector.

How and when did you get into photography?
I started in 2012. I had some free time and had a friend who was photographer. I look at his work and I decide to try. I learned the basis and started like this.

 

What does photography mean to you?

Light. I love light, playing with light.

 

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

I don't know if I have a style. I try to do what I like the best I can. It really depends of the subject. I consider myself as a generalist. Maybe the common point is the light approach.

 

Where do you get inspiration from?

From the place around me I always look around me when I am outside and also from my favorites photographers and some website, such as 1x, 500px

Think you in advance what you want in the picture?

I try to think at a guiding line and at what I will need. But I also let a part of freedom because sometimes there is an energy specific to a shooting that will guide you to another direction.

 

Studio, on location or both?

Both, it's different, but I like both,

 

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

Let say a paid hobbyist. Photography is not my principal job.

 

What has been your most memorable session and why?

Maybe the last I do for a stylist. It was a nice project with a team coming from Belgium and France. It was on location, in a forest with rocks. It was planned to be light with strobes and I foressen to use dry iceWe start and after 10 pictures  all the lighting system broke. After that we had problem with the dry ice. In fact, all I planned was ruined in  30 minutes. I had to switch to speedlights and improvise all the shooting. But we had really good return from the results.

 

What has been the biggest source of inspiration in your work?

My favorite photographer: Joe McNally.

 

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

I'm a Nikon shooter. The lens I use the most is the 70-200 f/2,8 VrII

 

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

Work and try. I'm not considering myself as an artist, but rather like a hard worker. Everytime I have free time, I read articles, I look at photos, I try new things. I fail regularly but I never stop to try and learn. And ,ener forget to take as much pleasure as you can with your camera.

It's a great initiative, there's not so much place dedicated like this magazine, and put the attention to the model is a great idea,
