Interview Photographer Freddy Billqvist (Sweden)

Tell us something about yourself  

Hello my namn Freddy Billqvist . I live in sweden in the country side. working as a commercial photographer . I have done this early 12 years now .

 

How and when did you get into photography?

I wanted great concert pictures of my favourite band Marillion , it all ended up like crap , with a compact camera .. some one told me , - You got a have a real camera.. so my family decide to go to  Los Angels . so i had to chose between a Camera or going with them to this trip . i decide a Nikon F60 , and then forced myself to learn photography to get better pictures until next concert with Marillion again ,, that is where the story begins.

 

What does photography mean to you?

it´s a way of living really , it´s the way of expressing yourself , a way of communicate with others . it´s my life.

 

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

My style is what i think is , great light ,big sens of humor in it odd twist and turn and also something  unexpected things in the pictures , not all of of it but i try to do it.

 

Where do you get inspiration from?

It could be all things in life , different situations , could be magazine.

 

Think you in advance what you want in the picture?

Yeah i really try to do my homework for work , but sometimes it all happens the unexpected things ,, small rooms low ceilings , could be nightmare.

 

Studio, on location or both?

Love them both.

 

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

I still feel like a Hobbyist , but work as a professional.

 

What has been your most memorable session and why?

Being ask by steve Hogarth to take photos of  Marillion was a dream i always wanted to do i thought it never was going to happen ..but did a photo session with them to their new album ”Fuck Everyone And run” it was hugh for me.

 

What has been the biggest source of inspiration in your work?

love Annie Lebovits work ,, steven Mesiel ,, Mikeal jansson the way the lit their pictures.

 

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

Hasselblad H2 and Canon   24-70 is the only lens you need.

 

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

Find their own style , look at those photographers you admire , then rest will come.

 

What do you think of our new magazine?

I had been busy to check it out , but i will soon :D hahahah.
