Interview: Photographer Gabrysia Szczypa (Poland)
Tell us something about yourself
Born in 2000, in a small city in Poland. Currently in high school. Eager to work with fascinating people
How and when did you get into photography?
This is not a very inspirational story. When I was 13 there were a few girls on my facebook feed who made photos of the popular kids so everyone wanted to go for a photoshoot with them. I wanted to be awesome like them, so I bought a camera right away. It was the one which I knew nearly nothing about recommended to me by some shop assistant. Now I was a cool one, who mastered the Automatic mode. Soon, though I realized that making profile pictures for everyone didn't give me so much satisfaction. I've started doing some research, finding inspirations and developing my skills, experimenting with something new. From that moment I'm still learning.
What does photography mean to you?
Photography satisfies me on a daily basis, sets me new challenges and keeps me productive
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
I love experimenting with different clothes, colors and textures. I prefer photos with natural lighting. Models with an interesting, original type of beauty are the best. Currently, it is hard for me to define my own style which is still forming itself
Where do you get inspiration from?
Inspiration is everywhere you look. The social media gives you a daily dose of nice pictures, which can be a source of a new idea. Sometimes, though, it comes to you out of the blue, when something beautiful or interesting catches your attention.
Think you in advance what you want in the picture?
Yes, I plan many things but the best ideas come to you spontaneously.
Studio, on location or both?
It depends on the character of my photoshoot and model.
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
Right now I still consider myself a hobbyist because I prefer to do something for free but do it properly.
What has been your most memorable session and why?
The most memorable one was probably on the allotment gardens in my city. I went there with my friend who was modeling for me. We weren't prepared at all- I didn't have any idea for the photo shoot, we just took some weird clothes from wy wardrobe and a bunch of random 5 cent store beauty products. Makeup was done on the rush in the bushes. It was the golden hour, so combined with lots of pretty flowers it looked quite interesting. People passing by approached us, confused by the image of two girls running around with a reflex panel.

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
I think that the best advice would be not to limit yourself. You should develop your skills and draw conclusions from every mistake. Don't be scared to try some new things and experiment.
