Tell us something about yourself

Hi guys! My name is Joakim and I live in Sweden and I’m 37 years old. At the moment I try to  get my business to grow and I started doing workshops. I teach about light and things I learned from experience. I also do other photo jobs but I really like the teaching and the appreciation you get from the participants.

 

How and when did you get into photography?

I started with concert and band photography in 2003-2004. I was never any good. Got into model and fashion photography in 2006-2007. Decided to do only that and haven’t looked back.

 

What does photography mean to you?

For me it’s everything. The most important thing in my life. It’s about art, beauty and capture a certain moment and/or emotion.

 

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

I would say it’s clean, simple, strong, sensual and sexy. Others might see it different but that’s what it is to me.

 

Where do you get inspiration from?

From seeing other good photographers work. By listening to music. Movies. I can also be inspired by a model or a look.

 

Think you in advance what you want in the picture?

I always do but usually I end up somewhere else.

 

Studio, on location or both?

I like studio for total control of light. I like location and outdoor in available for the exact opposite.

 

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

I’m a semi professional photographer. I have a ”normal” part time jobs but I also make money from photography. I do both jobs and workshops where I teach about light and how to shoot models.

 

What has been your most memorable session and why?

I don’t know.. I think I’m still looking for that one.

 

What has been the biggest source of inspiration in your work?

Other great fashion photographers. I have no special source of inspiration. It changes all the time.

 

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

I shoot Canon. I have different favorites depending what I shoot. In the studio I like Canon 24-70. For indoor location in available light I prefer fast primes. Outdoors I like 70-200.

 

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

Hmm… I’m not a good business man so I can’t give any good advice.
