Tell us something about yourself
My name is Liam, I am 26 year old photographer currently living in Jersey, Channel Islands. I currently work a full time job and photography is something I do in my spare time. Photography is my biggest passion, you might even say I am obsessed with it and my dream is to one day be able share my passion and teach others.

How and when did you get into photography?
I began my photography adventure in 2014, I vividly remember taking a photo of a landscape on my mobile phone and liking the image I captured, thought to myself I would like to try my hand at this with a real camera. Once I got my hand on my first DSLR i carried on taking landscapes before I found out about a portrait workshop being held in Jersey by the late Nicholas Javed, from here I haven’t really looked back.

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
I would say my style is fashion/sensual portrait, I have been influenced in trying to achieve a cinematic style to my pictures and this is something I am concentrating on a lot.

 

What does photography mean to you?
Photography for me is a way of expressing emotions and letting others see things the way you do, to see the beauty in the subject be it a landscape or a model. To me a good picture should almost be able to tell a story or create a feeling for the viewer.

Where do you get inspiration from?
My biggest inspiration comes from my late friend Nicholas Javed, I have to say that his pictures were and are completely breath taking and always make me want to strive to improve my skills. Other photographers who currently inspire me are Andre Josselin, Alessio Albi and Marc Hayden and of course Peter Lindberg.

Studio, on location or both?
On location most of the time, but recently i did shoot in a studio for the first time and its definitely something i will look to do again.

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
Definitely still a hobbyist for the time being, one day I hope i will be able to make a living out of this.

What has been the biggest source of inspiration in your work?
To try and capture an image that displays emotion, beauty and something cinematic that could tell a story.

 

What has been your most memorable session and why?
I wouldn't say I have one most memorable session, all of my sessions have been of equal importance to me and my learning process, however back in March I travelled to Warsaw, Poland and did five days of photoshoot after photoshoot, this really pushed me on and made me more determined to chase my dream and my passion. It was a trip which will always hold a special place in my heart.

Think you in advance what you want in the picture?
Yes the majority of the time I will have an idea in mind, a particular style, story or emotion that i will want to portray.

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
Work hard, hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. Really you can’t keep still for to long, keep shooting, keep editing its the only way to improve.
