Interview: Photographer Markus (Moving Elephant) (Switzerland)

Tell us something about yourself

I’m a Zurich (Switzerland) based photographer for 4 years now

How and when did you get into photography?

After being busy with photography since my youth I decided to grow from hobbyist to professional in 2011

What does photography mean to you?

Creativity inspires me and (due to my main job) it relaxes me at the same time

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

A journey between digital and analogue, monochrome and very colorful, planned and authentically, studio and in public.

Available light lover.

Where do you get inspiration from?

My imagination

Think you in advance what you want in the picture?

Yes, most of my images have a storyboard (location, style, type of model …)

Studio, on location or both?

Both

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

On my way to paid professional !

What has been your most memorable session and why?

There were two:

- Cologne 2011, with Carina Meyer-Broicher who helped me on my way to becoming “professional”

- Venice 2014, shooting in public together with Ruslan Lobanov with hundreds of additional Asian “photographers” on location behind us ;-)

What has been the biggest source of inspiration in your work?

Helmut Newton, Jimmy Nelson, Peter Lindbergh

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

Nikon, Nikkor 85mm 1.4

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

Back up your monthly costs … lack of money destroys creativity !

What do you think of our new magazine?

Creative and inspiring
