Tell us something about yourself

Well, My name is Nicklas Pedersen, and i am 21 years of age, a live here in Aarhus, Denmark. I am an educated chef, i just got my degree in June 2015, and now i'm studying to become a waitor at Castenskiold here in Aarhus.
- I am a suit and tie kind of guy, you won't find me in anything else when i walk down the streets of this lovely city... Well... Maybe on a Sunday ;)

How and when did you get into photography?

Let's go back in time!! It started, i think 6 years ago, when i got into my life as being a chef, and my work back then needed some new pics for their website of the food of course! And just a few weeks before that i've bought myself a camera, actually just to take pictures of the amazing nature near Silkeborg (City near Aarhus), because that was what i really liked back then, i have always been a HUGE fan of amazing landscapes, so i bought the camera and started with that... And then it all took a change when i got into food photography, and did all of their materiel for social media.
- After a few years i wanted to try something completely different, and i've just recently back then seen some amazing model pics on some groups on facebook. So i thought, i am gonna do that, just to see if i can do that too, so i contacted a lot of friends, and then the rest is history...

What does photography mean to you?

It is really for me, a place where i can relax, from a week with stress in the restaurant, and just be creative and let my mind go NUTS, as i like to say.
For me it's a place where i can show, who i am as a person, if its street shots, more elegant suits and so on... So really it is a place where i can just let loose and make something creative and wild, if i like that, that day... 

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

I would describe my style as being modern, classy and elegant with an edge, and the edge being my models. I don't use the models you see at Versace, Gucci ect. I like my models to have AGE, life experience.

Where do you get inspiration from?

I get a lot of my inspiration from a certain photographer and a good friend Toby Nguyen from New York, he is in my opinion one of the greatest male model photographers there is, and also from different male model magazines of course such as the danish magazine Euroman.

Think you in advance what you want in the picture?

I always do, because i don't like caos, and not knowing what to do on a shoot, and i think it will make me look unprofessional just running around. So i therefore use a lot of time on planning a shoot, i prefer 2-3 weeks before the shoot, to have a good talk with the client, and the model.

Studio, on location or both?

Well, i think as many things... It depends, if the client wants a clean picture with a white or black background, it should be shot in the studio. But if you ask me, it's much more fun to shoot on location, because you have so many more things to work with.

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

Wow... That's always the most tricky question to reply on, well, it's really hard to explain, because i don't make a living of it yet, but then again i have clients that book me from time to time, and therefore, but let's just say, things are looking good these next couple of months.

What has been your most memorable session and why?

I have given this one a lot of thought, because i have worked with so many talented people over my years.. But i think it must the shoot i had with Juli Kocemba from Elite Model Magagement Copenhagen - ( http://www.elitemodel.dk/women/development/juli_kocemba.web ). And the great makeup artist, Rosalina Nadine here from Aarhus who works for MAC Cosmetics.
- It was just a great shoot because, Juli is such a great model, Rosalina can do magic with makeup, and everything just went as i hoped, the light was amazing, the clothing we used fitted amazingly... So yeah, everything was just perfect. U will see her once or twice when u look through my pics, and she is also the banner on my facebook photo page.

What has been the biggest source of inspiration in your work?

That is without a second of doubt my Grandad who passed away a few years back, but he was SUCH A CLASSY MAN, a man who really lived the life of a legend, always looking sharp when he went out. He really showed me what a real old school gentleman is.

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

Hahaha something like that, is like asking my if i am a Christian or a Buddhist... For the last 5-6 years i've shoot mostly with my Nikon D3200, and really gotten to learn how to use that camera fully, but with that said i've shot with many different brands on different jobs, from Hasselblad to Leica to Canon 5d M3. So i really don't believe in this "Religion" on what camera to shoot with, i shoot with whatever i find fit for the job.

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

THINK, really think about how much time you are willing to put into it, because it is a job that takes time, take time to find your own style... And that takes years!
