For Years I Shoot Images in fashion and advertising: I work on behalf of clients in the fashion industry, and I realized editorials and covers for Italian and international magazines

How and when did you get into photography?

I took my first analog picture when I was 9 years old. I was lucky enough to have a family photographer who since childhood has brought me to this world, though it has become a real profession only about 10 years ago

What does photography mean to you?

Life, simply

 

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

I can not define my own style, my work takes me often to change and adapt to the needs of my clients, I do not put stakes and always love trying different things ... I believe that rules and set styles are a big pale for the creativity

 

Where do you get inspiration from?

I do not think we can speak of inspiration, mostly I let myself be guided by instinct, I have a very unstructured approach to photography. Obviously I admire the works of the greatest as Avedon, Newton, Ritts, but in my opinion even just try to imitate them would be impossible. I think it is better to go their own way, taking advantage of a thousand mistakes we make daily, trying to improve a little at a time

Think you in advance what you want in the picture?

Absolutely not, I do not like to program. Often arrive on the site of the shooting without even having seen him before. This is the aspect that I love most about my job, I look around and start to "click" with the mind ... pure creativity, one of the most beautiful feelings that I can try, I feel a bit like a child thrown into a room full of Lego bricks that can be assembled without rules.

 

Studio, on location or both?

For work I often have to shoot in the studio, but I much prefer to work outdoors or in attractive locations. I love natural light, also can move in multiple environments it allows you to create and interact with models in a much more creative way

 

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

I consider myself a lucky person, this job allows me to live by my passion. I have a large portfolio customers (I live in one of the main Italian textile districts) and I'm always looking for new professional challenges

 

What has been your most memorable session and why?

I can not decide which is my best shooting, each set where I shot marked me in some way, every shot has forged a part of me and of my photography. For me every shooting was “my memorable session”...

 

What has been the biggest source of inspiration in your work?

The desire to reach my dreams. When I was a kid I thumbed through fashion magazines such as Vogue or GQ, and I dreamed of seeing a photo taken by me between their pages. So many years later, I see realized my dream with my own eyes, it was one of the biggest thrills of my life.

 

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

I shot with Canon. They are both two great brands, personally I use Canon for many years and now I am used to certain automatism, I do not think to change in the short term. I currently use a 5DSr, in my opinion one of the best cameras for my industry: lighter and more manageable than a medium format, but with a sharpness and resolution that have little to envy to Hasselblad & co ... I prefer wide opening prime lens, I love the 50 and 85 1.2

 

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

Today photography as work is a complex journey to be undertaken and full of difficulties. The advent of digital technology has brought many improvements, but has also multiplied the competition among professionals in the field. Thanks to the web and social networks now just a few months are necessary to become international stars, but other few months to pass into oblivion... if the goal is to stay on the cutting edge for more than a semester, you have to commit. My advice for a beginner is to start moving in small steps: gain experience, do not ask yourself limits, proceed with caution, but did not dampen the enthusiasm and above all creativity. Always experimenting, every day. And having fun. If there is no joy to shoot there will never be a good photo
