36 and 49 years old. Boyfriend and girlfriend. Spinning and Bodycombat. Cameras and books.

We are a Danish couple. Opposites attract i guess. We are very different and we believe this is one of our strenghts. We love taking beautiful photos together. We have different views on every single photo which means we only let the very best from each shoot ”live”.

Bo sells photo equipment to proffessional photograhers and Rikke is a buyers assistent (Books).

 

How and when did you get into photography?

Bo was born with a camera in his hands. He started taking picures when he was 6 years old. Rikke started in a youth club when she was 13 years old.

We started taking pictures together in 2005 but mostly Rikke girlfriends or people we met on the street and thought had an edge. In 2011 we decided to make a facebook profile and hopefulle create a network of models, MUAs etc. We struggled to land our first shoot. We did not have references and models/MUAs/photographers did not know us. That changed with a girl named Tenna. And the rest is history.

 

What does photography mean to you?

Photography is a way of making a fantasy world come true and freeze a moment in time of someone beautiful. It means meeting a lot of amazing people. Models and MUAs. It means trying to get the light just right and the model to lift her chin just 1 mm.

It is a way of understanding light. If you do the world is so much more beautiful to live in.

 

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

A fashion photographer we respect, once called our style “reportage fashion” We have not found a better description ourselves.

 

Where do you get inspiration from?

Bo is the brain of the operation. He gets his inspiration when he sees some piece of new equipment, from movies, Ellen von Unwerth, Emily Soto and Helmut Newton. He sees a Broncolor Para 222 and then we try to use that in the next shoot.

We have a Pinterest account where Bo pinnes photos he thinks are interesting in som way. That can be the ligt, the styling, the model, the pose etc.

 

Think you in advance what you want in the picture?

A moodboard is a rare thing for us. We get an idea and then we try and pitch it to a model we think will fit into the idea. Usually we know what we want. But it is a hobby for us. Meaning we usually end up with a wide range of photos even though we went into the shoot with 1-2 specific ideas.

 

Studio, on location or both?

Both. We have access to a complete studio. A playground for photographers really. A studio shoot means access to all the equipment you can imagine. It is a luxury problem.

On location means minimalistic access to equipment (we drive VW up) and sometimes you need to be very creative to fit a lamp, a battery, a sunbounce and umbrellas and still have room for the two of us and a model.

 

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

110% hobby photographers.

We take beautiful pictures together. Other couples dance or play tennis. This is what we do together. We both have full time jobs. And Rikke has 2 jobs at the moment.

Our photo time is after 5pm or on the weekend. That also means we only do photo shoots that makes sense to us. This means no children or families.

 

What has been your most memorable session and why?

The first shoot we did that set us off on SoMe was huge. However we did not realise this untill after. We did a shoot with twins on the beach, which we remember because they were two identical people to the last tattoo. Our shoot in a mansion with a beautiful blond girl who made a living as a automecanic or when we made a wedding dress out of plastic and almost all cars driving past ud slowed down and congratulated the models on the big day.

In some way all our shoots have been memorable. It sounds corny but it is true. We are pretty sure we have a moment, a situation or a small detail we remember from all of our shoots.

 

What has been the biggest source of inspiration in your work?

Helmut Newton, and Ellen von Unwerth has been the two most important sources of inspiration in our work.

 

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

At Bo´s work we have access to Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Olympus, Hasselblad and we never shoot with the same brand two times in a row. We try to be all around.  

 

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

Make sure you have a clear deal with your model. Nude/semi nude/underwear/fully clothed. Stick to it. If the deal is fully clothed, respect it.

We have never worked on contract and we have never had problems working like that. We stick to our arrangements 110%.

Create a fun, light and easy to work in athmosphear. People have a tendency to loosen up if you can chat and laugh and it is so much easier to work like that.
