Richard Ugo Torbey (France)

Tell us something about yourself
It's always and forever difficult to speak about myself. That is the reason why I became a photographer after being a model and actor when I was 22.

How and when did you get into photography?
I was modelling in NewYork City back in 1988, but as I said I didn't like it much. At this time I wanted to be a professional modern jazz dancer. But from time to time, from shooting to shooting, i've started to enjoy, throught Photographers, the idea of being one of them. And that's what I did.

What does photography mean to you?
It's a passion! It's a matter of expressing your creativity thru your artistic side. Capture a vision of life that you can have forever and see the beauty in every day It's not about what you see! It's about how something felt.

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
I tried to bring emotions throught my photos and i get the inspiration deep down inside of myself

Think you in advance what you want in the picture?

It's totally spontaneous! It's a connexion between the model and myself all along the shooting

Studio, on location or both? I love Paris. I love natural lights

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional? As an Artist I'm both

What has been your most memorable session and why?

Back in 2009, I was placed under police custody because of this model Delphine Pinson or pseudo Marine Haber (MarineH) She lied about being abused and hit! In front of the Police she went back to those lies. Until now It is still my most memorable session! You can imagine why

What has been the biggest source of inspiration in your work? Life. People.

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens? Canon 5D mark III lens 24-105

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

Most of the new photographers see this "work" in terms of technics! But it's more about what you feel. JUST OPEN YOUR HEART.

What do you think of our new magazine?

There is more and more magazines now. I took time to look all of them this morning. It's great and I'm so glad that you came to me to be published!
